Is Maine on your bucket list? If not, you need to add it. My mom and I had an incredible mother/daughter trip and took in all the beauty that Maine offers in the fall. I’m sure you see pictures of the beautiful fall foliage but let me be the first to tell you that the pictures do not do it justice. The colors of the leaves changing and the rocky coast line are breath taking and definitely a vacation spot everyone needs to visit at least once in their lifetime. We stayed at different airbnbs during our trip and I have to say that they were so accommodating especially since we took this trip during COVID-19. Below I have provided a 4 day itinerary to make planning your trip easier!

Day 1:

Starting off day 1 in Portland. Known for old streets, buildings, and the beautiful fishing piers.

Day 2:

  • Breakfast at Becky’s Diner
  • Visit The Portland Head Light
  • Drive to Mackworth Island (This is a great place to take a picnic and enjoy nature.)
  • Enjoy a beer at Shipyard

After we finished our itinerary on day 2, we went ahead and drove Route 1 to Bar Harbor. I suggest leaving right after lunch so you can stop off along the way. There is great shopping in Freeport and a must stop for tourist at Red’s Eats in Wiscasset. Known for their famous lobster rolls. Let me go ahead and tell you that we waited over an hour in line but it was definitely worth it.

Day 3:

  • Explore Acadia National Park (Arrive early because parking can get crazy later in the day. Also, bring rain gear because showers pop up quickly.)
  • Lunch at Side Street Cafè
  • Explore shops in Downtown Bar Harbor

Day 4:

After we wrapped up our sailboat tour, we enjoyed driving around admiring all the old houses then drove backroads to soak up all the fall foliage. Along the way we stumbled upon an apple farm and got to enjoy picking apples and sampling ciders.

Now that I’ve shared our amazing itinerary, I hope you add Maine to your bucket list and start planning your adventure!
